Robert Bressonin elokuva tästä Bernanosin kirjasta lienee jopa vielä kuuluisampi kuin itse romaani. Se on harvinainen esimerkki siitä, miten hyvästä ja vaikuttavasta romaanista on sittenkin mahdollista tehdä aivan erinomainen elokuva.

Kirja kuuluu eräisiin kaikkein vaikuttavimpiin lukuelämyksiini. Valitettavasti en tähän "hätään" löytänyt siitä aikoinaan kopioimaani sitaattia, jonka olen nostanut Dostojevskin kristinuskon analyysien veroiseksi. Luultavasti päivitän sen tähän myöhemmin.
Bressonin elokuva oli myös vaikuttava kokemus. Sekä elokuva että kirja pitäisi kuitenkin kokea pitkästä aikaa uudestaan.
