.
John Fogerty: Wrote a Song for Everyone. Vanguard/Sony, 2013
.
Niistä Train of Fools voi ajan mittaan hyvinkin nousta Fogerty-klassikoksi.
.
PS./RR
Fogertyn kaikkein suurimpiin klassikoihin kuuluva mutta melko vähän tunnettu Some day never comes [onnettoman epätasaiselta trio-CCR:n Mardi Gras-albumilta, 1972] on saanut viimeinkin arvoisensa sovituksen tällä tosiaankin erinomaisella albumilla. No - kyllä tältä levyltä löytyy etenkin vierailevien artistien myös loistavia ja 'monimutkaisia' kitarasooloja [Fotunate Son/Foo Fighters; Wrote a song for everyone/Tom Morello: mm. Rage against the Machine ja Bruce Springsteen Band 2013; Hot rod heart/Brad Paisley].

For any songs redone on the new album, were you unsatisfied with the original versions?
.
Some of these I think are better. "Someday Never Comes" I think is a lot better. Dawes is a great band. Some of that is my fault – I made some choices on the original, just how I sang. My singing is a little flat on the humming part. Ouch. Creedence had already broken up in one form, and I probably wasn't feeling real great in those times.
When the original was being recorded, I really wanted it to kick ass when it got to "Well, I'm gonna tell ya, now . . . !" and it didn't quite do that on the original. This time it does. That wasn't the reason for doing this. It was to revisit and take a fresh approach.

'Blow away the dreams that tear you apart, blow away the dreams that break your heart, blow away the dreams that leave you nothing but lost and broken hearted' - - 'And I believe in a promised land'.

Bruce Springsteen The Promised Land with John Fogerty London 14-07-12 Hard Rock Calling

 *

On a rattlesnake speedway in the Utah desert
I pick up my money and head back into town
Driving cross the Waynesboro county line
I got the radio on and I'm just killing time
Working all day in my daddy's garage
Driving all night chasing some mirage
Pretty soon little girl I'm gonna take charge
.
The dogs on Main Street howl 'cause they understand
If I could take one moment into my hands
Mister I ain't a boy, no I'm a man
And I believe in a promised land
.
I've done my best to live the right way
I get up every morning and go to work each day
But your eyes go blind and your blood runs cold
Sometimes I feel so weak I just want to explode
Explode and tear this whole town apart
Take a knife and cut this pain from my heart
Find somebody itching for something to start
.
The dogs on Main Street howl 'cause they understand
If I could reach one moment into my hands
Mister I ain't a boy, no I'm a man
And I believe in a promised land
.
Well there's a dark cloud rising from the desert floor
I packed my bags and I'm heading straight into the storm
Gonna be a twister to blow everything down
That ain't got the faith to stand its ground
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted
.
Well the dogs on Main Street howl 'cause they understand
If I could take one moment into my hands
Mister I ain't a boy, no I'm a man
And I believe in a promised land

Konservatiivi-koomikko Ray Stevens lobbaamassa Sarah 'tax [not sex] free' Palinia ja ironisoimassa USA:n 'obamalaista' sisäpolitiikkaa mm. laittoman maahanmuuton näkökulmasta ym. 'hauskaa'.

Yläkuvassa hämmästelee Amerikan tavisten 'hauska' persu--reiska Ray Stevens aka Harold Ray Ragsdale, occupation: country musician, party affiliation: republican. - Alakuvassa republikaanien pupu-kuukkeli Sarah Palin, joka ilmoitti ettei pyrikään presidenttiehdokkaaksi. Ray yllättyi.

I

Ray Stevens, the artist whose humorous country songs include “Ahab the Arab” and “Mississippi Squirrel Revival” has written what’s sure to be a new hit–Caribou Barbie.

The song pokes fun at liberal media hacks who constantly attack former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and reminds viewers of Palin’s accomplishments while leading the country’s largest (in land area) state. And here are a couple of verses in the song that’s sure to send liberals into even more of a screaming fit:

“Palin for President
has a nice ring to it.
Obama shelved in 2012
and you and I can do it.

A President with common sense
now that’d be somethin’ new.
Throw out that tax and spend Jackass
Vote in the Caribou.”

Ray Stevens - Come to the USA - Ray's song about the illegal immigration debate!

Lyrics below:

The video starts off with Stevens answering a phone-

"Hello this is the IIAP, illegal immigration assistance program. A taxpayer funded division of Oaknut. For Spanish press one, Portuguese two, Arabic three, Farsi four, French five, Swahili six, German seven, Italian eight, and if you insist on English please stand by."

If you thinkin’ about illegal immigration,
Be careful when you’re choosin’ the nation
‘Cause breakin’ the law in some countries is frowned upon.
Imagine that.

Sneak into China and they’ll call you a spy
And ship you to Mongolia till you die.
And in Sudan they’ll hang you and the camel you rode in on.

Yeah, and don’t go ahikin’ and enter Iran,
Or you might never be heard from again.
And in Mexico, you might face a firing squad.

Yeah, and forget all about going to North Korea.
That’s a great example of a bad idea,
So when it comes down to it, there’s only one option you got.

Yeah, come to the USA.
There’s no penalty to pay
Should you get caught illegally immigratin’

Come to the USA.
It will be your lucky day
‘Cause when you get in there’s lots of goodies waitin’

Like health care, welfare, free education,
Help with your voter registration
And drivers license and credit cards
And license plates for your old car.

Lots of jobs for you to do
And employers who’ll turn a blind eye, too.

Come to the USA!
No need to worry about the Constitution.
We’ll help you start a house of prostitution
If that’s the kind of work that you wanna do.

You see, those gringo infidels are crazy.
They’ll give citizenship to your new baby.
So, you see, there’s really only one choice for you.

Come to the USA.
There’s no penalty to pay
Should you get caught illegally immigratin’
I said come to the USA.

It will be your lucky day
‘Cause when you get in there’s lots of goodies waitin’

Yeah, you get public housing and cable TV
And food stamps and even government cheese.
The borders are a swinging door.
Go home for a visit and come back for more.

There’s sanctuary and amnesty.
Bring the whole famn damily eventually.

Yeah, come to the USA.

"This has been a public service message sponsored by Oaknut, dedicated to the collapse of the American way of life. Ahahaha, yeah."

The very end of the video shows:

"This video and song are dedicated to the hard-working American citizens who were born in other countries and chose to "Come to the U.S.A." the right way."

Koska näyttää jälleen kerran siltä, että tulen hyllyttämään parina viime päivänä melkein valmiiksi kirjoittamani pitkän päretekstin kuvineen ja tuubi-linkkeineen [jonkalaisia on kertynyt parin kuukauden ajalta jo muutamia], minun on pakko julkaista tällaisia 'hömppäpäreitä', jotta saisin edes jonkinlaisen itselleni asettamani julkaisunormin täytettyä. Pahoittelen asiaa. Olen tällä hetkellä vaikeuksissa, mitä itseymmärrykseeni tulee. Pitäisi hiukan vahvemmin uskoa ennenkaikkea ajattelunsa perustaviin lähtökohtiin. Muuten ainakin omien tekstien julkaisukynnys nousee turhan korkealle.

Good Old John

Kuvassa: The Haunted House Paradise Party (Puutarhajuhlat kummitustalon pihaparatiisissa).

*
Garden Party-kappaleen (alla) viimeisen säkeistön loppu on John Fogertylle eräänlainen motto:
'But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck. - -(chorus) 'But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well, You see, ya can't please everyone, So ya got to please yourself.'
*
John Fogertylla on (ollut jo monta vuotta) etenkin tällä hetkellä maailman paras country & rock-bändi: The Blue Ridge Rangers - - Rides Again. - - Olen valikoinut päreeseeni kolme uuden albumin live-esitystä - kaikki eri keikoilta.
*
Haunted House + Lyrics - - Tämän kappaleen sanoista John Fogerty lienee saanut ainakin osan inspiraatiota biisiinsä Looking Out My Back Door - Creedence Clearwater Revival. - - Tosin myös cover version aloitus viittaa avoimesti LOMB:iin. - - Kuunnelkaa vertailun vuoksi alkuperäinen Jumpin' Gene Simmonsin - Haunted House.
*
Paradise + Lyrics - - John Prinen countryfolk-henkinen lapsuusmuistelo (jonka melodiasta ja sovituksesta tulee jotenkin mieleen myös irlantilainen kansanmusiikki; - Fogerty-sukunimi on muuten irlantilaista perua) taas tunnetaan ehkä paremmin Dave Lindholmin mainiona ei-ihan-yksi-yhteen-käännöksenä ja esityksenä: Dave Lindholm: Tupakka, viina ja villit naiset (live 1991).
*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv6dKYFaJQw
Garden Party + Lyrics - - - John selittää ennen biisin alkua, miksi kyseinen Ricky Nelsonin kappale on hänelle niin kovin läheinen. - - Kipeiden CCR:ään eli hänen omien laulujensa kohtaloihin liittyvien muistojen takia - - niinpä tietysti. - Vaikkei John yksityiskohtia ymmärrettävästi tässä kertaakaan. - - Ja nythän kaikki on hyvin. Ollut jo monta vuotta. - - Pistän tähän vielä äänentoistoltaan ja kuvalaadultaan hiukan paremman (joskin ennen loppua kesken katkeavan) Garden Partyn bändin promokiertueen valmistelevista harjoituksista elokuun lopulta: JOHN FOGERTY-BLUE RIDGE RANGERS RIDES AGAIN.

Come what may I will walk with you

Miten ihana kappale tämä onkaan! I will walk with you John Fogertyn 2004 julkaisemalta albumilta Deja Vu (All Over Again). John kirjoitti kyseisen laulun 2001 syntyneelle nuorimmalle lapselleen - tyttärelleen Kelsylle (joka heti alkoi pitää sitä omanaan). - - Ja kuunnelkaa minkälainen bändi Fogertylla on. Huippumuusikoita kaikki.

I Will Walk With You - John Fogerty

I will walk with you
Every step of the way
Love you all my life
Love you everyday
No matter where you wander
No matter what you do
Come what may I will walk with you

I will walk with you
And treasure every smile
No matter what the fashion
You'll always be my style
My pretty little princess
An angel dressed in blue
Come what may I will walk with you

I will walk with you
Even when the sun don't shine
The rain it may come down
And Fate may be unkind
If you get a scrape
I'll brush away the tears
Come what may I will walk with you

I will walk with you
Together we will share
Jelly beans and pink ice-cream
A Christmas teeddy bear
And one day I am for certain a
Brand new puppy too
Come what may I will walk with you

I will walk with you
And love you for all time
Travel this ol' world
Your little hand in mine
I'll never be far from you
This I promise you
Come what may I will walk with you
Come what may I will walk with you

Pelimannit

Keith Urban on sisäistänyt erinomaisesti Fogertyn fiilikset, mitä tulee kyseiseen Johnin lauluun 'raisusta pojasta'. - - - Joskus kantriakin jaksaa kuunnella pitempään (hymiö).

Mä elän vieläkin - en suostu kuolemaan

The Highwaymen esittää Jimmy Webbin sykähdyttävän country-iskelmän Highwayman.
Alla myös vallan erinomaiset suomalaiset sanat kyseiseen kappaleeseen.
*
Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson perform Highwayman live.

(Willie Nelson:)
I was a highwayman.
Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
But I am still alive.
(Kris Kristofferson:)
I was a sailor.
I was borne upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still.
(Waylon Jennings:)
I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and around and around
(Johhny Cash:)
I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again...
***
Mä elän vieläkin
(sanat: Harri Laukkanen – Erik Mantere – Juha Tapaninen)
(Harri Marstio:)
Mä tapoin miehen
sain maineen puukkojunkkarin
vaik' itseäni puolustin
kruunun kyyti minut Siperiaan vei
se juna palasi mut ruumini vain ei
mut vaikka sinne jäin mä palaan takaisin
mä elän vieläkin

(Jorma Kääriäinen:)
Mä puita uitin
tanssin päällä tukkien
vein monen neidon sydämen
suma seisoi
yksin tukit panostin
lanka paloi loppuun liian aikaisin
pato murtui multa parrun alta vei
mua kukaan nähnyt ei

(Pate Mustajärvi:)
Mä olin sotamies
jouduin kaukopartioon
rintamalle Petsamoon
me rata katkaistiin ja tultiin kotiin päin
se ryhmä vihollisen väijytykseen jäi
sain kuulan rintaani,
jäin hankeen makaamaan
mä elän vieläkin, en suostu kuolemaan

(Topi Sorsakoski:)
Mä olin kuningas, lailla Virran Olavin
sain kultaa sain myös timantin
koskaan kenellekään sanonut en ei
mut auki revittiin ja viina minut vei
mä nousin tähtiin palata en sieltä voi
mä elän vieläkin, mun levyt vielä soi
ja soi ja soi ja soi
ja soi ja soi ja soi

Iloisin suru

2592 x 1944 px (Coimbra, Portugali, kuvan suurennos)

Sunday Morning Coming Down (Kristoffersson, 4. säkeistö)

In the park I saw a daddy,
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school,
And listened to the song they were singin'.
Then I headed back for home,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

*

"Saudade (pron. IPA [sɐu'ðað(ɨ)] in European Portuguese and Galician, and [sau'dadʒi] or [sau'daði] in Brazilian Portuguese) is a Portuguese word for a feeling of longing for something that one is fond of, which is gone, but might return in a distant future.
It often carries a fatalist tone and a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might really never return.

Saudade is generally considered one of the hardest words to translate. It originated from the Latin word solitatem (loneliness, solitude), but developed a different meaning. Loneliness in Portuguese is solidão (a semi-learned word), from Latin solitudo.
Few other languages in the world have a word with such meaning, making saudade a distinct mark of Portuguese culture. It has been said that this, more than anything else, represents what it is to be Portuguese.

In his book In Portugal of 1912, A.F.G Bell writes:"The famous saudade of the Portuguese is a vague and constant desire for something that does not and probably cannot exist, for something other than the present, a turning towards the past or towards the future; not an active discontent or poignant sadness but an indolent dreaming wistfulness."'
