Sharona ja Terästyttö

The Knack oli 70/-80-luvun vaihteessa hetkeksi maailman maineeseen noussut 1½-2 hitin ihme. Los Angelesissa perustetun yhtyeen esiintymiset ja ensimmäinen [My Sharona] sekä toinen [Good girls don't] single saivat eräät tunnetut muusikot [Springsteen, Petty, Manzarek/Roxy Music] kehumaan bändiä ja rockmusiikkitoimittajat [Knackin levy-yhtiötä kompaten] jopa hehkuttamaan, että nyt on uusi Beatles syntynyt, sillä rytmisestä erilaisuudestaan ja sovituksellisesta tiukkuudestaan huolimatta Knackin ensimmäinen LP assosioituu harmonioineen ja stemmoineen selvästi enemmän 50-luvun lopun/60-luvun alun [60-66] pop-rockiin [esim. Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Who] kuin rythm&bluesiin ja punkiin [jos kohta My Sharonasta voi halutessaan löytää myös 70-luvun lopun punk-vaikutteita].

Mutta toisin kävi. Ilmeisesti biisintekijä/laulaja Doug Fiegerin kasvonpiirteissä haluttiin ensi-LP:n jälkeen nähdä huomattavasti enemmän John Lennon-karismaa, kuin niiden taakse lopulta sisältyikään. Lennoneita, McCartney'ja [tai Fogertyjä] kun ei pop-rock-taivaalle ilmesty edes parinkolmenkymmenen vuoden välein, vaikka [kuten Knackin levy-yhtiön tapauksessa] bändiä/artistia markkinoitaisiin miten massiivisesti tahansa.

Jytisevän tehokas mutta samalla popmaisen kepeä My Sharona on kuitenkin erinomainen debyytti-single eikä sen mukaansatempaavuus ole 30:ssä vuodessa tippaakaan vähentynyt ainakaan minun korvissani ja rock-musiikkimaussani.

Ensimmäisessä tuubiversiossa näemme My Sharonan säestyksellä kymmenen kaunista nuorta naista. Listan ykköseksi on asetettu Helen Slater eli Supertyttö tai Terästyttö/Ironmistress niinkuin minä häntä nimitän.

Good Girls Don't by The Knack - - Kyllä tämä Knackin toinenkin single on ihan kelpo biisi ja huomatkaa, miten beatlemäiseltä bändi vaikuttaa etenkin, kun katsotaan laulusolisti/rytmikitaristi Doug Fiegeriä, jonka kasvot tosiaan tuovat etäisesti mieleen varhaisen John Lennonin.
